About this Programme
The Centre for Learning and Teaching would like to offer you a new round of training workshops in this summer to help refresh and reflect on learning and teaching skills as well as prepare for the new academic year. We provide workshops in the topic areas of “Enabling e-Learning”, “Enhancing Teaching Skills”, “Professional Development”, “Students’ Diverse Needs” and “Assessment”. There are 6 new titles across the topic areas. Please take a look at what’s available for your choosing in August 2014.
“Enabling e-Learning” continues to be our highlight this season. All three workshops offered are new and familiarise teachers with how today’s technology can enhance learning and teaching. If you wonder how to get students to use their mobile phones for learning purposes instead of internet browsing for once, “Turning Mobile Phones to Clickers for Instant Response and Interactive Delivery” might be the workshop for you. Another way to use mobile devices is for file sharing, which is helpful in managing students’ projects. Want to know more? You can find out all about it in “Facilitating Students’ Collaboration with Mobile Devices”. If you would like to capture the student’s attention by presenting them with animated presentation, please join “Captivate Your Audience with an Animated Presentation”. Teachers will learn how to create eye-catching animated videos for training or presentation with PowToon.
Workshops offered in “Enhancing Teaching Skills” aim to enhance skills in resources development, getting timely student response in class for the benefits of teaching, and giving effective feedback. “Designing Effective Teaching and Learning Resources” looks into how teachers could design more effective printed materials by applying basic principles and useful methods. In “Effective Collection of Student Responses in Classroom to Fine Tune Teaching”, teachers will have a taste of using information technology to collect responses to find out how well students learn in class. Besides teachers, students look for responses, too. “Teacher’s Feedback: Lighting the Way Forward” looks forward to share with teachers’ conditions and characteristics of effective feedback.
“Professional Development” is a topic area that many teachers are interested in. This season, we are glad to offer one new title in “Implication of Qualifications Framework for Vocational Education and Training (VET)” for teachers who would like to update on the latest development of QF in Hong Kong and its implication of developing teaching and learning activities. Effective teaching usually means building a good relationship with students. “Building Rapport with Students” helps identify ways to strengthen teacher-student relationship. Teachers may also learn to know your students better by joining “You’re your Students through a Simple Picture (Projective Drawing)”. It is a technique that helps teachers understand a student’s inner self through a simple picture.
This workshop in the topic area of “Students’ Diverse Needs” is precious because it’s one and only this season. “Multiple Intelligence in the Classroom” allows teachers to enhance their daily teaching practices by applying Gardner’s multiple intelligences.
The two new titles in “Assessment” are correlated and useful for performance assessment especially. “Performance Assessment Know-How” focuses on design strategies and the development process of performance assessment while “Rubrics Know-How” on developing rubrics for specific performance assessment tasks.
Feel free to check out the details of this season’s workshops in the Workshop Schedule. For enrolment, please follow the Enrolment Procedure and enrol in one or more workshops. We look forward to seeing you in our workshops. All teachers are welcome. You may also find our contact in the Enquiry.
