About the Seminar:
As the number of ethnic minority students increases, ethnic and cultural diversity will become the norm in many Hong Kong classrooms. In this workshop, participants will explore issues of diversity, inclusiveness, and racial inequality. Participants will learn about challenges that ethnic minorities may face in Hong Kong, particularly in the education system. They will also look into the skills and tools for managing a classroom of students with diverse racial backgrounds; how to promote racial inclusiveness on campus and help students identify and confront stereotypes and discrimination in classroom situations. The workshop will also touch on the Race Discrimination Ordinance and its relevance to the school, teachers and students alike.
On completion of the workshop, the participants would be able to:
- identify key issues from Race Discrimination Ordinance;
- discuss ways to manage a classroom of students with diverse racial backgrounds; and
- suggest ways to promote racial inclusiveness on campus.
All interested teachers are welcome.
