Pedagogy and Assessment
About the facilitator:
Dr. Rizwan Ullah received his PhD in Education from the University of Hong Kong. His thesis focuses on the problems and solutions of learning Chinese by non-Chinese speaking students. Raised in Hong Kong, he attended Delia Memorial School (Hip Wo), where he now teaches. Dr. Ullah is Educational Advisor for the Pakistani Students Association Hong Kong (PSA).
About the seminar:
This workshop aims to refresh frontline teachers’ knowledge and understanding about Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) students and to empower their techniques in dealing with NCS students in various classroom situations. Through his personal teaching experiences, Dr. Ullah will address some of the common myths/misunderstanding towards the NCS students. Several classroom scenarios will be discussed, and a pragmatic approach will be suggested for the said scenarios. This coming workshop could be a knowledge exchange platform to illustrate how effective learning and teaching can be achieved while dealing with the NCS students.
On completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Suggest ways to create and deliver an effective learning and teaching environment for NCS students.
- Reflect on the teaching strategies and lesson plans used when facilitating NCS students in a classroom.
