Centre for Harmony and Enhancement of Ethnic Minority Residents (CHEERS), Hong Kong Christian Service (HKCS)
About the Workshop
The workshop aims to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills on career guidance and life planning for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) students. Challenges faced by NCS youths on education and employment will be illustrated with reference to demographic and social economic statistics, as well as cultures and religions of ethnic minorities. Participants will deepen their understanding of the needs of NCS students on career education and life planning through group exercise and discussion. The Support to Ethnic Minority Parents and Students (STEPS) Model developed by HKCS to support career education and life planning of ethnic minorities will be introduced. With this model, participants would be able to better design life planning events to cater for the needs of NCS students. Some examples of effective guidance intervention from HKCS will be presented for participants’ reference.
On completion of the workshop, participants would be able to:
- identify some challenges faced by NCS students on education and employment, and
- reflect on the knowledge and skills on career guidance and life planning for NCS students.
All interested teachers are welcome.
