About the seminar
This seminar aims to enhance participants’ techniques in teaching Chinese/Cantonese for NCS students and to provide them with a platform for knowledge building. It is a personal experience sharing on practical techniques that have proven to work in the life of Mr Vivek Mahbubani, a Hong Kong-born Indian who is fluent in Cantonese. Vivek will analyse different aspects of the lives of non-Chinese such as their own culture, environment as well as habits and how they influence him to learn Chinese. He will tell us how he was motivated to learn Chinese Language and to overcome the learning barriers during the process of his study.
About the speaker
Mr Vivek Mahbubani is a popular comedian in Hong Kong, performing in both English and Cantonese. He was crowned 2007 Chinese and 2008 English Funniest Comedian in Hong Kong and was the host of the TV series “Hong Kong Stories”《香港故事》by RTHK. He appeared in a cameo role for the movie “All’s well, ends well 2009”《家有囍事 2009》and is a headliner at TakeOut Comedy Club Hong Kong.
On completion of the seminar, participants will be able to:
- Identify possible motivating factors to encourage NCS students to learn Chinese/ Cantonese; and
- Reflect on own’s strategies for teaching Chinese/Cantonese for NCS students.
